David Andrew Houston

It is with great sadness that our family announces that David Houston, age 59, died unexpectedly on October 1, 2022. Though David battled multiple health issues during the last years of his life, his death still caught us all by surprise. His generous nature and sardonic wit will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

David earned his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Indiana University.

David lived the final years of his life in Clifton, TX, moving there at the end of 2018 from Seattle, WA, where he was employed by KPMG as an expert in taxation issues.

David loved to travel; and he went to numerous locales around the globe, many of those trips shared with his close friends, his mother, Joan, or his niece, Michelle. Everywhere he went, he wanted to travel “first class” and “in style;” a classification he truly earned and expected to experience in every aspect of his life. He greatly appreciated fine food; but he never developed a taste for “sea bugs” (what we common folk refer to as crab and lobster)! He was fluent in French and German; and he knew many phrases in other languages that he loved to use given the opportunity.

In addition to languages, David was extremely knowledgeable about the automotive and aviation industries. (He loved to demonstrate a portion of his aviation knowledge when taking visitors to the Boeing museum in Seattle.) He fulfilled his years-long desire to own a Porsche 911; but rarely felt safe enough to drive more than a few miles at a time.

David was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Houston, and his mother, Joan (Leach) Houston.

David is survived by his brothers: Paul E. Houston (Kathy), William C. Houston (Joann), and Joseph A. Houston; niece, Michelle A. Houston, nephews, Adam P. Houston and Aaron C. Houston (Teasha), nephew, Matthew Houston (Jennifer), niece, Caitlin Burt (Tyler); niece, Lenore Houston; and former sisters-in-law, Teresa A. Dubuque, Linda J. Gray, and Cindy Houston—all of whom loved David wholeheartedly as he did them. David is also survived by numerous cousins and other extended family members.

A special note of gratitude is extended by David‘s family to Damaris and David Neelley, and their whole family, for the extraordinary love given and care provided David throughout his final years in Texas.

A celebration in memory of David‘s life is being planned for early November, with details to follow through Kramer Family Funeral Home, Hurst, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business (HSB) Endowed Scholarship Fund.
